Casentino Cloth: an icon of versatility and modernity in design

Casentino Cloth boasts a long history dating back centuries: originating from the Casentino Valley in Tuscany, this textile has been passed down from generation to generation, preserving its distinctive characteristics.

History tells us that the inhabitants of the Palagio Fiorentino in Stia used to pay their taxes, known as “gabelle,” to the Medici rulers of Florence with the coarse Casentino cloth.

However, despite its deep historical roots, Casentino cloth still demonstrates extraordinary versatility in the field of contemporary design today. It’s no surprise that this fabric can be used in a wide range of applications, from fashion to interior design.

Casentino Cloth in fashion

Casentino cloth was famously used in the film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s“: the playful four-button orange coat worn by Holly Golightly was, in fact, made from this unmistakable curly wool fabric, cut and sewn for the occasion by Givenchy’s atelier in Paris.

Even more recently, Roberto Capucci created a fabulous pleated coat, cinched at the waist and featuring large lapels, using Casentino cloth.

Casentino Cloth in Design

Despite its ancient origins, Casentino cloth is anything but outdated. In contemporary design, it has earned a prominent place thanks to its ability to adapt to new trends and designer requirements. Its natural characteristics and unique texture allow for experimentation with innovative shapes, patterns, and colour combinations, making Casentino cloth a bold choice for modern interiors.

The distinctive element of Casentino cloth is its timeless elegance: its rich and deep colours harmonize perfectly with every style of interior décor, from classic to modern. This fabric lends interiors a sophisticated and refined appearance, conveying a sense of warmth and hospitality. It is a visual delight and a tactile indulgence.

Its sturdy weave and natural weather resistance make it perfect for furniture upholstery, curtains, and cushions, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to spaces.

The use of Casentino cloth in interior design adds an element of authenticity and originality, creating a unique and personalized atmosphere in the spaces it graces.
